Well, recently, I put myself in harm's way when I decided to freely communicate with the person behind Your Dungeon is Suck. Now I've run afoul of Alexis over at Tao of D&D. I've had my differences with him but have sought to bury the proverbial hatchet. I lost my temper a bit and made some harsh comments. I regret that. Alexis seems to me to be a bit of an eccentric...or he just has a persona he projects through his blog, a character he likes to portray. Enough conjecture, I'm probably way off base. The point is, I've come to my senses. I'm willing to live and let live.
Anyway, I became the subject of a post on his blog this week. I feel strangely honored...and scared!
Now, what would it be like to get Alexis, Your Dungeon is Suck guy, and maybe Malcolm Sheppard over at Mob United together in a cage match? Place your bets!
I stopped reading Alexis' site awhile ago when I read through an entire commentary section from this one reader (who knows?! It might have been you!) who seemed to be asking some questions in a very polite and honest manner, and Alexis' attitude was basically [note - I am paraphrasing. This is not an actual quote] "If you're too stupid to figure it out for yourself, then that sucks for you. I'm too busy and important and don't owe you anything, so I don't have to answer your questions."
ReplyDeleteI just genuinely didn't understand why he would respond like that.
It basically reminded me of Sheldon, but with fewer social skills, if you can imagine. Except that Sheldon is actually as book-smart as he thinks he is.
I just stopped reading his stuff. He's gone off the wall with his diatribes and pseudo-philosophical monologues. But as he'd say, that's his right, if you don't like it don't read it. He has some great ideas and admirable persistence.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand him, really. He just infers so much about a person that he wants to attack, and just runs with it. How much can someone do that until they realize that their just making massive assumptions all the time? Oh well. My goal in my recent communications with him were to sincerely apologize for bad-mouthing him. I'm better than that. We should always hold ourselves to higher standards.

Alexis is ready to be sent to a 'home' somewhere... hopefully before he loses what little humanity he has left.

Really, it is a matter of something I've said in one context being applied to every context imaginable. But I won't deny it - I am very important to me, it is almost like I am forced to live with myself on a continuous basis.
Gentlemen ... and I do not use that term facitiously, I am quite certain that you are all, in fact, gentlemen ... there are reasons for what I do. The reasons may not seem reasonable. I'm not quite, as scott says, ready for a home, though I don't doubt there are others ready to put me there. In the meantime, I will point out I don't go to your blogs and behave abusively, now do I?

Alexis, thanks for stopping by. I wasn't being dishonest when I asked to bury the hatchet. If you're doing a schtick on your gaming blog, so be it. And I shouldn't have reacted badly to your posts in the first place. But when you put forth, even in jest, a confrontational front, you have to expect people to react in a confrontational manner in their own turn. I know you say that you don't come to my blog to attack me, but what's here to attack? I use MY blog to just share my experiences in actual gaming and sometimes to share some thoughts/musings. I also use it to ask people's opinions on things and to sometimes just post some gaming "pop culture." In all, I'm not here putting out the sort of stuff you are broadcasting. And I understand that that's perfectly fine. I just want to be clear that there's a big difference.
ReplyDeleteBut what's the point of all of this chatter? You seem like you're trying to say that you're putting on a clear persona when you write at Tao of D&D. And that's just what it is. You have created a character that comes off as something of a, well, confrontational person. No prob. Have a good one!
